CyberSec & AI Connected is an annual conference where academic and industrial leaders come together to discuss developments at the intersection of AI and cybersecurity. 2019 brought together a stellar group of speakers from industry and academia to discuss and debate these intellectual challenges (see the 2019 conference report and speaker list at cybersecai.com). This year event will take place online and in four cities on 8th October 2020.

[Cyber] CiderSecurityCon Conference Wrap Up

The CiderSecurityCon conference was scheduled to take place on March 14-15, 2020. Due to the COVID pandemic however, the on-site event was cancelled. The organizing crew however, decided to re-organize a virtual version of the conference. Using Zoom with the speakers, and streaming via YouTube, they managed to pull off a very friendly and nice virtual event. Here’s our wrap up.

The Swiss Cyber Security Days are a two-day event in Fribourg, Switzerland. This event brought together Cyber security researchers, consultants from technology, business, politics and the general public interested in cybersecurity from all over the world.

At the second edition of the Swiss Cyber Security Days our researcher Maria Jose Erquiaga presented the work of the Aposemat laboratory in the talk: “The Truth is out there: Hunting malware from an IoT laboratory”.

DEFCON 2019. Beyond Sandboxes. How to Execute IoT Malware and Analyze its Evolution

We presented a talk at the Packet Hacking Village in Defcon titled "Beyond Sandboxes. How to Execute IoT Malware and Analyze its evolution. We showed how we designed and deployed an IoT malware execution laboratory to run malware for months and how we analyzed it to find novel attacks.

Summary of the Amparo-CERTUNLP Workshop in Neuquén, Argentina

On May 27-30 I participated as member of the CERTUNLP in a conference organized by the Government of Neuquén province in Argentina. Together with LACNIC in the frame of the Amparo Project we participated giving a workshop to other incident responders and members of CSIRTs. The event was very successful. The audience gathered individuals responsible for the security area of ​​many Argentine provinces as well as National Universities, representatives of local ISPs, banks and other public and private organizations. On June 20th will take place in Stockholm the First Workshop on Attackers and Cyber-Crime Operations (WACCO) as part of the IEEE European Symposium on Security and Privacy (EuroSP). WACCO is a great initiative that provides the opportunity for research, discussions, and sharing on cyber-criminal activities.

Creating "Too much noise" in DEFCON AI village CTF challenge

During DEFCON 26 the AI village hosted a jeopardy style CTF with challenges related to AI/ML and security. I thought it would be fun to create a challenge for that and I had an idea that revolved around Denoising Autoencoders (DA). The challenge was named “Too much noise” but unfortunately it was not solved by anyone during the CTF. In this blog I would like to present the idea behind it and how one could go about and solve it.
